Freshwater Natural Baits
Some great freshwater baits are cut baits, dough balls, shrimp, insects, minnows worms, eels, mussels. Freshwater bottom-feeders like catfish and carp are lured to cut baits and dough balls. They are commercially made, come in a can and are for certain fish such as trout, catfish, carp and sunfish. Shape them all the way around the hook. Minnows are a good all around freshwater fishing bait. For cast and retrieve hook the fish vertically through the lips or through the tail. Worms are also a good all around freshwater fishing bait. To prevent smaller fish from nibbling on the worm just use a piece of the worm. For fish that steal the bait such as sunfish cover the hook with the worm until the hook is completely covered. Grasshoppers and crickets are best to use as live fishing bait for catching panfish, sunfish and trout.
